Roses for growing in containers

A hugely popular way of growing roses and particularly successful if the following guidelines are used:
Use John Innes No. 3 potting compost – this is soil-based and provides a heavy growing medium which gives better results than a peat-based compost.

Feed using a slow-release plant food – when added annually to the compost, this will gently feed your rose for one whole growing season. Nothing else is needed!

Smaller roses need containers sized about 30cm by 30 cm, medium roses need 40cm by 45cm and larger roses require containers around 45cm by 60cm. ALL roses will grow in containers and we list below the more compact, bushy varieties:
