HISTORIC SHRUB; MAUVE
Very strong growth to around 2-3m and the flower buds are heavily mossed. The flowers are a rich purple and have a good perfume. Mid-summer flowering only.
Introduced in1855, this is a vigorous mauve moss rose that makes a sprawling upright shrub. Highly scented, it lends itself to training as a short climber against a wall or on a short pillar. Buds are mossed and the semi-double flowers display centres of golden yellow stamens when they are fully open. Mid-summer flowering with a strong scent. Useful as a tall shrub.
Bred by Laffay of France in 1855 and named for William Lobb, a 19th century Cornish plant collector who introduced the monkey puzzle tree to Europe.
