CLIMBER, CREAMY WHITE
In Brief
A lovely fragrant rose that will thrive on a north wall. A vigorous grower with whippy growth that will need to be trained horizontally for best results. Repeat flowers.
More Detail
This rampant climber produces masses of pale, pinkish white blooms with a strong tea-like fragrance, over a long period. Foliage is pale green and borne on flexible stems that make it easy to train on a fence, wall or pergola. Thrives on a north-facing wall. Voted the best white climber by the National Rose Society in 1908. This popular rose was created by Joseph Schwartz in 1879.
The World Federation Of Rose Societies entered Madame Alfred Carriere into the Society's Old Rose Hall Of Fame in 2003 an honour shared with just 10 other roses: Cecile Brunner, Charles de Mills, Glorie de Dijon, Gruss an Teplitz, Madame Hardy, Old Blush, Mutabilis, Rosa Gallica Officinalis, Rosa Mundi and Sourenir de la Malmaison.
*Hstorical note:-this rose was named after the wife of Alfred Carriere, who was the chief editor of Revue Horticole, a famous horticultural publication in France in the 1800's and a keen amateur rosarian.
