HISTORIC; GREEN/REDDISH BRACTS
An odd little rose, popular with flower arrangers. Essentially a curiosity and a talking point!
A bit of an oddity! The Green Rose bloom is made of sepals on top of sepals on top of more sepals but no flowers are formed. The leaves are long and thin with sharp points. The florets have a slight but pronounced peppery, spicy fragrance that is particularly predominant when the sepals are rubbed. First recorded in the mid 1800s. Makes an interesting addition to floral arrangements.
HISTORIC NOTE: Originating in China, at one time, it was forbidden for anyone outside of the Forbidden City to grow this rose. It was literally the sole property of the emperors.
